What is Periodontics (Gum Diseases and Treatment)?
Kayseri Periodontics is the main branch of science that deals with the diseases and treatment of the tissues surrounding our teeth, namely the gums and the bone surrounding the roots of the teeth. People who have completed their doctorate in this field and become experts are called gum disease specialists, namely periodontologists (periodontists).
What does periodontics do? What is periodontics? or What does periodontics look at?
The tissues surrounding our teeth consist of both hard and soft structures. These tissues are very important for our oral and dental health. Therefore, our oral and dental health is also in a very close relationship with our general body health. In order for a problem in our teeth or an inflammation in our gums not to progress and cause tooth loss or negatively affect our general health, it is necessary to first diagnose correctly and apply the necessary treatment, evaluate the results of these and ensure the continuity of the healthy structure created or the stopped progress. This is the primary goal and duty of the gum disease specialist, namely periodontology.
Gum Treatment Methods
Early treatment of gum diseases is important. In this way, tissue destruction is treated before it reaches advanced levels.
Professional Tartar Cleaning; Tartars and harmful tissues formed on the edge of the teeth and gums are removed. If tartar constantly forms in the mouth, regular (every 6 months) tartar cleaning should be done.
Curettage (Root Surface Smoothing); It is applied if tartar and harmful tissues cover the gum pocket and root surface. Tartars and harmful tissues on the tooth root surface are removed with a curette or laser and the gum is ensured to tightly wrap the root surface.
Flap Operation; If the tartar and harmful tissues on the root surface cannot be removed sufficiently with curettage, that area is surgically opened. Harmful tissues and, if necessary, a part of the gum are removed. If bone loss is too much in the opened area, an artificial bone graft or bone tissues taken from the patient can be placed during the procedure.
